The Cranach hostel is located in the former home of the Cranach family, in the old town of Wittenberg. Lucas Cranach the Elder (1472-1553) and his son, Lucas Cranach the Younger (1515-1586) managed their workshop here in the 16th century, in which paintings were created, which can now be found in major museums around the world. Also the Cranach family lived here and ate with their companions at the same table. Martin Luther was a frequent guest and Cranach had also invited Katharina von Bora, Luther’s later wife, into his house.
The Cranach Foundation is extending this tradition. You too can enjoy the unique atmosphere of the beautifully restored rooms; you are very welcome at the house of the Cranachs!
The corner house on the market still proclaims the richness of the Cranach family. It has been carefully restored in recent years and is home to guests again since 2009. You can follow the tracks of Luther and Cranach, perhaps even paint in the Cranach workshop. You can reach 3 floors over the Renaissance-Wendelstein with 24 colorful, imaginative and well-furnished rooms with a wonderful view of the historic market or the idyllic courtyard.
The house is a place of rest and relaxation and was deliberately dispensed of media distractions like television and telephone. If you are planning a creative holiday, a meeting or want to have a party with your family, we will gladly advise you.

in Wittenberg follow the traffic-signs guiding to city-centre (Zentrum),
leave the B 187 at the exit city centre by turning right (cross over the bridge),
at the next two sets of traffic lights turn right,
after 500m on Hallesche Straße turn left into Elbstraße.
Parking spaces are provided at Wallstraße and the nearby train station Lutherstadt Wittenberg Altstadt.
Directions from Leipzig (B2)
After crossing the Elbe bridge, turn left on B 187,
stay at the left line and turn left when possible from B 187 to city centre (Zentrum),
cross over the bridge and turn right on the next following two stackings,
on Hallesche Straße turn left into Elbstraße. Parking spaces are provided at Wallstraße and the nearby train station Lutherstadt Wittenberg Altstadt.
